All that jazz, piano, clarinet and electroacoustic music at USA (via Alabama)

The University of South Alabama’s music department’s Musical Arts Concert Series is serving up a slew of sensational shows in the next two weeks.

All concerts will take place at the Laidlaw Recital Hall on the USA campus at 5751 University Dr. S. 

Here’s the musical menu:

USA Piano Ensembles Spring Concert directed by Jasmin Arakawa

Monday, March 16 at 7:30 p.m.

The music of Mozart, Debussy, Corigliano and Shostakovich, plus Beethoven’s “Ghost Trio” will be played by piano student artists and faculty pianist and Piano Ensemble Director Dr. Jasmin Arakawa.

10th Annual Vandoren Clarinet Ensemble Festival Concerts

Saturday, March 21 beginning at 9 a.m.; final concert begins at 7 p.m. 

This free event features clarinet ensembles of all sizes from all over the United States playing three concerts plus a grand finale concert bringing all the festival’s players together. The fest also includes educational presentations , panel discussions, vendor displays from instrument and music sellers including Buffet Crampon, Vandoren, Jeanne Inc., Art’s Music, and Andy’s Music.

Tentative performance schedule:

10:15 am.  to 11 a.m.:  Opening Performance featuring the USA Clarinet Ensemble and University of Florida Clarinet Ensemble.

11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.: Concert #2  featuring Melomane Duo, Southern Mississippi Graduate Clarinet Quartet and Asheville High School Clarinet Ensemble.

2:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.: Concert #3 featuring Tosca Duo, Novacane Quartet and Stetson Pitches.

7 p.m.: Festival Mass Clarinet Choir finale concert
