Avery*Sunshine kicks off waterfront jazz series (via Philadelphia Tribune)

Chester native Avery*Sunshine will get things rocking and heads bobbing late next week as the Smooth Jazz Summer Nights returns for its 20th season on Delaware River waterfront in Philadelphia.

Avery*Sunshine, best known for her mellow No. 1 hit “Call My Name,” opens the popular jazz series on Aug. 5 on the RiverStage at the Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing. The free concerts will feature jazz and blues artists in a scenic venue. All shows begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday through Aug. 26.

A former member of the Wilmington-Chester Mass Choir, Avery*Sunshine wrote “Call My Name,” with her longtime producer and collaborator Dana “BigDane” Johnson, and the wistful ballad made its way to the top of the Billboard Adult R&B Songs chart, overtaking “Stay with Me” by duet with British artist Sam Smith and Mary J. Blige.
