Central Illinois Jazz Festival returns (via Herald & Review)

With musical groups named Cornet Chop Suey and Funky Butt Brass Band, newcomers can guess that the Central Illinois Jazz Festival will be interesting.

But the titles of the acts aren’t what brings jazz lovers to Decatur, it’s the talent. Popular jazz musicians from around the country will be part of this year’s festival. The three-day weekend, titled “The Place to Come for Jazz and Fun,” will begin today and continue through Sunday afternoon at the Decatur Conference Center and Hotel.

Four separate sessions will offer a variety of jazz, including rag-time piano, big band, Cajun and zydeco. “The talent is top of the line,” said Carol Carol Jontry, co-president of the Juvae Jazz Society. “It’s like being on a cruise.”
