The Elgin Symphony Orchestra next month will be presenting its first jazz concert, which will feature a musician who played with the Blues Brothers and other big acts.

The concert will feature Mark Bettcher and his Reunion Jazz Ensemble along with guest saxophonist “Blue” Lou Marini, Jr. May 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the Hemmens Cultural Center.

The symphony’s chief development officer, Cheryl Wendt, said that she and the symphony’s CEO Dave Bearden had been discussing finding new revenue streams for the organization and were looking at different ways to raise money.

“About the same time, Mark approached us with an idea for his group to put on a concert for us,” Wendt said.

“It was perfect timing that we all were looking for options. It should be a nice wedding,” Bettcher said.
