Robert Glasper Trio: The question is which Robert Glasper will show up. When so inclined, Glasper can be a provocatively engaging jazz pianist, his improvisations defying conventional concepts of melodic development, song structure, backbeat — you-name it. That’s the Glasper who intrigued listeners before he became an R&B star. More recent visits, however, have shown Glasper playing to the widest possible audience and, therefore, diluting his work for maximum accessibility, not a great formula for a major Chicago jazz venue. In any event, one reasonably can expect Glasper to play music from his forthcoming album, “ArtScience.”“
