Grace Potter, Erykah Badu among Jazz Fest headliners (via Democrat & Chronicle)

Grace Potter, Erykah Badu, Chris Botti and Chick Corea, joined by pianist Joey Alexander — all of 12 years old now — are the first four headliners announced for the Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre shows at the 2016 Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival.

The shows go on sale at 10 a.m. Jan. 29.

The four dates are a diverse collection of musicians. Potter, who plays opening night on June 24, is a blues-rocking singer-songwriter. Badu, performing June 25, is known for boundary-pushing R&B and soul. Botti, with a June 30 date, is a crowd-pleasing trumpeter.

Perhaps the most-intriguing of the shows is the June 28 pairing of Corea, one of the significant jazz pianists of his generation, with Alexander, the piano prodigy from Bali who stunned the festival last summer with his mature, emotional performances in Hatch Recital Hall and a standing-room-only show for more than 800 people in the Lyric Theatre. Alexander was recently the subject of a profile by the TV news show 60 Minutes.
