Jazz revivalist Kamasi Washington highlights upcoming UMS season (via mLive)

Of the many adjectives used to describe the upcoming season for the University Musical Society, perhaps none is more fitting than “epic.”

Jazz revivalist Kamasi Washington, whose 2015 album “The Epic” has garnered praise from a host of critics, is scheduled to perform on Friday, Sept. 30, at the Michigan Theater. Washington is among the highlights of the 2016-17 University Musical Society Season, which begins on Sept. 11.

The tenor saxophonist has been described as “the most-talked-about jazz musician since Wynton Marsalis arrived on the New York scene three decades ago” by the New York Times.
