Lift your spirits with jazz at Winter Wonders concert (via Hometown Life)

Expect to hear joyous and jazzy sounds at Schoolcraft College’s annual Winter Wonders concert on Monday, Dec. 14.

Riccardo Selva, Ph.D., director of the jazz studies program, hopes the upbeat holiday tunes touch hearts and lift spirits.

“When I invite people to the jazz concert, most of them in the normal demographic say, I don’t like that ‘out there’ stuff. This concert will be very enjoyable, engaging and interesting for everybody. It’s appealing to all ages. It’s beautiful music,” he said. “During the holiday season we need things that touch our hearts. There is nothing that does that like the arts, in an intentional way that is meant to foster reflection and stir our spirits.

“There is always a joy and sorrow, a bittersweet feel, and yet, we can celebrate that. Music has a wonderful way of bringing memories to mind and it has a wonderful way of healing.”

The two-hour concert will start at 7:30 p.m. in the Diponio Room at the VisTaTech Center on the main campus, 18600 Haggerty, Livonia. Parking and admission are free, although donations will be accepted.
