More Than 70,000 Attend 25th Annual Greater Hartford Festival Of Jazz (via Hartford Courant)

More than 70,000 people, many relaxing on lawn blankets with overflowing picnic baskets at their feet, attended the 25th annual Greater Hartford Festival of Jazz celebration at Bushnell Park from Friday through Sunday.

Tiana Correa, festival spokeswoman, said the crowds “exceeded expectations.” On Sunday, the audience stretched from the performance pavilion stage up the hill behind the Capitol, with lawn chairs, blankets and sun umbrellas filling the lawn.

The festival features jazz performances from Friday through Sunday night, including favorites like Jonathan Butler and Gerald Albright, as well as the Hartford Legacy Jazz Orchestra. Food trucks, vendors and outdoor lawn games for children add a festival flavor.

Correa said people have traveled from as far as California and Virginia Beach, Va., for the celebration. “It’s a Hartford festival, but we’re reaching across the country,” she said.
