Music, food and good times at Jazz on the Lawn (via Queens Chronicle)

Musician Craig Crawford enjoys playing in Roy Wilkins Park, where the Craig Crawford Players will kick off “Jazz on the Lawn — Barbecue Style” at 6:30 p.m. today, July 9.

“It’s one of the oases in Jamaica,” he said. “Absolutely a hidden gem, where you can find some of the greatest musical talent that we have in Queens.”

The concert series, sponsored by the Black Spectrum Theatre, features music and food in a relaxed atmosphere where people are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and spread out blankets to enjoy the show.

Crawford said he expects his audience to consist of those who like his mix of jazz and gospel, with both original works and some old standards.

“We’re going to make magic,” he said.
