New York City jazz musicians play Bellingham (via Bellingham Herald)

Smalls is one of the most respected jazz clubs in New York and the world. Run by pianist Spike Wilner, it presents the best jazz has to offer multiple times a day.

Whatcom Jazz Music Arts Center hosts an ensemble of some of the best musicians who have played at Smalls, including Wilner on piano, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, at The Majestic, 1027 N. Forest St. (use the Maple Street entrance).

The ensemble includes guitarist Peter Bernstein, who has been a part of the jazz scene since1989. He has appeared in groups led by, among others, Sonny Rollins, George Coleman, Fathead Newman, and Diana Krall. Current projects include his album “Monk,” and a recently released solo record, “Solo Guitar: Live at Smalls.”

Other ensemble members are saxophonist Grant Stewart and trumpeter Joe Magnarelli.
