Norah Jones and other Denver jazz best bets in August (via Denver Post)

For the next couple of weeks, the most exciting jazz being performed in Colorado won’t take place in the smaller clubs, where the action usually is.

The days to come will also feature appearances from performers with solid jazz backgrounds who have made names for themselves in the pop world. Bruce Hornsby, who has released admirable straight-ahead jazz records, plays with his group The Noisemakers at the Denver Botanic Gardens on Aug. 8. Multi-platinum success Norah Jones, whose piano and vocals have always defied categorization, brings her group to the Ellie Caulkins Opera House Aug. 10. And saxophonist David Sanborn, a breathing example of eclecticism, teams up with Dave Koz at the Soiled Dove Underground Aug. 10-11.
