‘Oregon Stories’ combines history, jazz (via Portland Tribune)

Coming off performances earlier this month in Hood River and Astoria, the Portland Jazz Composers Ensemble brings “Oregon Stories” to the city, April 8. 

Three noted area jazz composers collaborated with radio station KMHD-FM 89.1 on the audio history project, which tells the stories of three Oregonians who triumphed over racial and gender discrimination. 

“Oregon Stories” features compositions by film composer and guitarist Mark Orton, pianist and Portland State University music professor Darrell Grant, and PJCE Executive Director Douglas Detrick, an award-winning composer and trumpeter.
