Guitar maestro Trey Anastasio closed out the Gentilly stage on day one of the New Orleans Jazz Fest, demonstrating the impeccable flurries of flat picking for which he’s known, to the obvious delight of his faithful fans.

The sky was cloudy. The atmosphere was a bit heavy with humidity and the smell of smoldering hemp wafting from crowd. Near the center of the audience a stylish young man in orange-tinted mirror glasses swayed to Anastasio’s stylings.

“He’s just sitting in the pocket right now, getting everybody warmed up,” the man in said as the show got started.
