Sixth annual Springfield Jazz Festival coming up (via Springfield News-Leader)

Enjoy the cool sounds of smooth jazz at Springfield Jazz Fest on Oct. 2.

Springfieldians can get a little taste of the Big Easy at the sixth annual Springfield Jazz Festival on Friday, Oct. 2 on Park Central Square and Park Central East in downtown Springfield. The festival kicks off at 6 p.m. with the Tom Rastorfer Trio.

The festival’s headliner this year is Conrad Herwig and The Latin Side All-Stars, who will take the Park Central Square stage at 9 p.m. Trombonist Herwig is a three-time Latin Jazz Grammy nominee. He will perform at various venues on Commercial Street 5:30-7:30 p.m. Oct. 1 as a preview to the Friday night festival.

Returning this year is the Springfield-based Linda Sala Jazz Experience. Sala’s exquisite vocals and talented supporting musicians make for a first-rate hometown jazz experience. Saxophonist Richard Bruton and his quintet also returns to the festival this year. Missouri State University’s Jazz Symposium I and Jazz Faculty Quintet will also be on hand to show off their talents.
